No matter how you use your garage is still a main entry and exit and in order to keep a optimal level of security it is important to make sure tatt your garage door works properly. That is why knowing how garage doors operate can be very useful.

Garage doors are multipart systems that includes many moving parts like springs, brackets and hinges. They are driven by an automatic opener and need to work perfectly all together to open and close your garage door in the most safe possible way.

Methods to Define a Garage Door System

It is common to define garage doors is according to the type of springs. Garage doors use torsion springs or extension springs.

Torsion springs

Strong, twist-loaded springs mounted above the garage door, they wind up to lift the door smoothly and many times last longer because they spread the weight evenly.

Extension springs

These springs stretch along the sides of the door’s tracks when it opens. They are much simpler and less expensive but wear out faster.

Torsion springs considered better for heavy duty insulated garage doors because they are stronger and work more quietly while extension springs cost less therefore are highly recommended for smaller and lighter garage doors.

For What Reason Does a Garage Door Wont Open or Close?

Broken Springs
As we said at the beginning of our words, garage door springs are intended to handle the door’s heavy weight and if they get broken the door won’t move an inch.

Damaged Cables
Worn cables can eventually snap and stop the door from operating at all.

Blocked Sensors
Objects in the way can block the door’s safety sensors and prevent movement, also dirt or misalignment of these safety sensors can prevent the door from closing.

Remote Issues
If the remote loses its signal or if its batteries are dead the door wont work.

Track and Roller Problems
Misaligned tracks or damaged rollers can stop the door from sliding properly.

Opener Issues
The most common opener issue is if it ain’t getting power because of disconnecting from the outlet or disconnected wires. Also the garage door opener may be accidentally set to manual mode which disconnect it from the door.
